SHB MISSION

Stud hound Bassets is a business dedicated to breeding a better basset hound period! We strive to breed a hound that is healthy with straight legs & backs, low drool and clear eyes. Our Bassets are extremely smart, athletic and have excellent temperaments.

Stud hound Bassets does not line breed to keep our lines clear of genes that can produce skin problems, allergies, cancers and bad temperaments. We only breed a select few litters a year and are focused on delivering the best quality pet for your family.

All dogs are raised inside and socialized in a home environment. Our pet prices vary and are worked out individually with each family to fit their needs. We are dedicated to the Basset Breed so 5% of each puppy sale goes to a Basset Adoption of your choice and we also foster and do rescue as well. We are located in Freeport, IL.

BOB MATTHEWS  (Sometimes Elgin pickup/meetup location) (BASSETS: STELLA, SNUFFLES, ORION AND BETHANY)

A little about me, other than my LOVE of bassets and everything Stud Hound Basset.  I am a wood worker having made every piece of furniture in my house except the couch (can't sew).  I also bow glass, so at my house you will sit on a chair I made, at a table I made and drink from a glass I made.  I have camped in the Amazon rain forest for over 90 days on 4 different trips.  I have sky dived, rappelled and bungee jumped.  I have stock car raced, demo derby and drag race with my 2002 Trans Am.  And I have a 37 foot motor home (RV) that I take my basset hounds all over the country in!

KELLY HALEK  (BASSETS: LAVERNE, SHIRLEY AND PENELOPE)

My folks have always had dogs when I  was growing up.  My dad liked to hunt and he had a golden retriever that was amazingly good at his job. We moved to the country when I was in the 3rd grade to a 5 acre farm.  We had cats, horses and dogs. I loved to ride and go to 4-H horse and dog shows.   I even went to our local county fair a couple of times and did pretty good showing them.

I worked on a very prestigious Saddleback Horse ranch (Brandywine Farms) for a year taking care of several horses in 1981.  I was the personal groomer to 2 horses that went to championship show in Kentucky that year and both won and I was recognized as their groomer for the job that I did. I went on to work a couple of different jobs till I was hired at Boston Scientific in Maple Grove.  I worked there for 30 years, mostly, as a Documentation Specialist. I am now doing online schooling for a degree in Medical Billing and Coding.

JENNIFER MESSMER HABERSTICH (BASSETS: LOLA, JOSIE, SMARTY JONES, PERFECTION, MOCHA JOE AND HARRY POTTER)

Hello my name is Jennifer.  I have been married 25 years and have 4 children.  I also have 4 bassets from Dondi whom I have know since 2nd grade.  I reconnected with her about 10yrs or so ago. I received training from her fall of 2020 on birthing pups.  She has been a great friend and she truly loves her dogs and takes great care of them and the people who get them from her.
